Leveraging oral storytelling as a viable repository for natural language processing.
My Role
"Language equals access." As a native Dioula/Bambara speaker at Google, my goal was to bring more access to Bambara speakers worldwide, so I spearheaded a one-of-a-kind language dataset project in collaboration with five organizations: RobotsMali, AMALAN, INALCO, and Rochester Institute of Technology. I oversaw the negotiation process that engaged more than 30 griots hailing from diverse backgrounds, and provided creative direction for over 50 hours' worth of film episodes. I also made contributions as an author to a research poster featured at Deep Learning Indaba.
